Protecting Results

Cambridge Enterprise are responsible for commercialising the University’s research and have particular expertise in patenting, licencing and supporting consultancy. They should be contacted when you have produced, or anticipate, inventions and other results that could be commercially valuable, and before you publish or present at a conference. Be careful- industrial and academic visitors are welcome at most seminars organised in the Department and presenting results at these events may prevent them being patented effectively. See the Knowledge Transfer Facilitators for advice.

If your research is sponsored by industry, then alternative arrangements may be in place - contact Research Operations Office for clarification.

If you work with an industrial sponsor or partner, you should be able to discuss your results with them. However if they ask you to assign results to them, please contact Cambridge Enterprise in the first instance.

Cambridge Enterprise has a network of Enterprise Champions across the University, who are available to discuss any ideas for protecting and commercialising your research.

Suggestions to improve this page should be sent to Chris Pearson () in the first instance.
