Academic research is only the first stage towards real benefits for individuals, industry or society. Further development is needed before your work makes a difference, and the University and other sponsors can support this through funding and advice.
Impact Acceleration Account
The UK Research Councils provide funding through Impact Acceleration Accounts to help engage with industry. The Follow-on Fund supports the early stage development of technology to make the idea more attractive for commercial investment
Catapults are UK funded centres to develop new technologies to generate economic growth. Funded by Innovate UK, they have staff and facilities to enable collaborative working with industry. While they do not fund research in Cambridge or other universities, they provide support for further development and provide a route for engaging with industry- a key part of many projects pathway to impact.
